The Importance of Specialised Photographers for Medical Practices

Photographers not only have access to high grade photographic equipment, lighting and other tools – they know how to use them. Our photographers are members of the AIPP and are experienced professionals. They know how to work with clients to plan and prepare for the shoot (a major factor in the success of a shoot). They also know how to get the best out of the shoot on the day by helping to manage and direct the various participants.

Hardware Tools

In terms of hardware tools – photographers have a lot to manage. The improvements to pro grade digital cameras and lenses in common use means that images now genuinely rival traditional film – up to 45 Megapixels!

Photographers have a range of high quality lenses to suit the vast majority if requirements. The notion that expensive precision glass is required for the best results still applies.

Similar tools and techniques are also used in the production of still photography and video. The latest digital still cameras can essentially double as camcorders, and deliver very high quality results (some as high as 4K video).

Our photographers have access to lighting and metering equipment to ensure the subject of the shot is well lit.

Importantly they also have access to tripods, to mount cameras and ensure a steady shot. This factor is actually very important as even with digital image stabilisation found in modern cameras a photo taken with a tripod is likely to be naturally superior. Even the steadiest of hands is no match for a tripod, the difference in quality is quite significant.

Software Tools

Software tools are another area of expertise necessary for professional grade images. Photographers are wizards with software such as Photoshop / Lightroom – utilising techniques such as High Dynamic Range (HDR) / merging bracketed shots, levels, colour control, sharpening etc. Processing images in this fashion is standard practice and can greatly improve already good images.

Just as important as the right tools, is the ability to know when and how to use them. Selecting the right tool for the job and knowing how to use it is something that only training, experience and natural talent can deliver.

Additional Assistance

Our photographers are also capable of working with our clients to assist them. Assisting clients with how to prepare before the day of the photoshoot is very important (client preparation is a major part of the recipe for success with a photoshoot). Our photographers can also provide a certain amount of guidance and direction to help get the best out of the shoot on the day. Often, photographers will be able to preview images to clients on the spot, for immediate feedback if required. Planning also extends to composition – our photographers understand our specific requirements for various applications such as Banners, Bio Headshots and the like.
